Your buyers are asking ChatGPT and Perplexity for a shortlist before they ever open Google. We find out whether you are on it, and do the work that gets you named.

Generative engine optimization is the work of getting your business named and cited when someone asks an AI assistant for a recommendation. It overlaps with SEO but is not the same job: assistants assemble answers from what the wider web corroborates about you, so the work is as much about consistency and citation as it is about rankings.
the increase in how often AI engines cite a page when it carries direct answers, fact-dense tables and primary statistics instead of marketing prose
This is the single most actionable finding in the field, and it is why the work looks less like keyword targeting and more like editing. Most New York company sites are written to persuade a human who is already on the page. Assistants are not persuaded — they extract. A page that answers plainly in its first sentence gets lifted; a page that builds to its point gets skipped.
What we do to get you named
Four workstreams. The first two are things you can control directly; the last two are slower and are where most of the durable advantage sits.
Baseline where you actually stand
We run a fixed set of commercial prompts across five engines, repeatedly, and record how often you appear, in what position, and who gets named instead of you. Repetition matters because these systems are non-deterministic — a single run tells you almost nothing.
Measurement before opinionRewrite for extraction, not persuasion
Direct answers in opening sentences, comparison tables, definition lists, explicit statistics with their sources attached. This is the highest-yield work available and most of it happens on pages you already have rather than on new ones.
Usually the fastest movementMake the web agree about you
Assistants trust what is corroborated across independent sources. Inconsistent company descriptions, service lists and naming across your site, directories, profiles and coverage actively suppress you. Fixing that is unglamorous and it works.
Consistency is a ranking factor hereEarn the citations they read
Coverage, original data and genuinely referenced research in the sources these engines pull from. Slow, and the reason a competitor with a thinner site sometimes outranks you inside an assistant despite losing to you in Google.
The durable half of the work
How the engagement runs
Baseline
A fixed prompt set built from how your buyers actually phrase the question, run across five engines with repeated passes. You get the raw results, including the competitors named ahead of you.
Work the controllables
Content restructured for extraction, entity and description consistency repaired everywhere you appear, structured data corrected. This is where the first measurable movement usually comes from.
Re-run and report
The same prompt set, the same engines, on a schedule. Movement is reported against the original baseline, including where nothing changed — which happens, and you should hear about it.
No one can promise you a place in an AI answer. There is no slot to buy, no submission form, and the engines change behaviour without notice. Any agency telling you otherwise is selling you something that does not exist. What we can do is measure your position properly, work the things that demonstrably influence it, and show you the movement against a baseline you can check yourself.
Questions
- Is this just SEO with a new name?
- No, though they overlap. SEO optimises for a ranked list of links; this optimises for being named inside a synthesised answer where there is no list and often only three or four brands mentioned. The technical foundations are shared, but the content work is different — you are writing to be extracted and cited, not to be clicked.
- Can you guarantee we appear in ChatGPT?
- No, and anyone who does is not being straight with you. There is no paid placement and no submission process. What we guarantee is honest measurement: you will know how often you currently appear, how that changes, and which competitors are being named instead of you.
- Should we do this before or after SEO?
- Usually alongside, and if your site has serious technical faults, after. Assistants largely read pages that search engines can already reach and understand, so a site that Google struggles with will struggle here too. If you have to choose one first, fix the foundations.
- How long before we see movement?
- Content restructuring can show inside one measurement cycle, sometimes six to eight weeks. Citation and corroboration work is slower — three to six months before it moves the numbers reliably. The honest position is that this channel is young and timelines are less predictable than in search.
- Why does this matter more in New York than elsewhere?
- Because your buyers are expensive to reach by every other route. Paid search here is among the costliest anywhere, and organic is contested by companies with in-house teams. AI answers are currently the one surface where a well-run mid-sized firm can be named alongside far larger competitors without outspending them.
